A Statistical Study of the Prevalence of the Cervical Enamel Projection and Periodontal Implications on the Korean Molar Teeth

Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence of cervical enamel projection
and the relationship between periodontal involvement and enamel projection.
The Author has observed the prevalence of the cervical enamel projection on 4,230 maxillary and
mandibular first, second, third extracted molar teeth of Korean male and female.
This cervical enamel prejections were present in differing prevalence for each tooth.
The occurrence of cervical enamel projections ranged from 17.40% (Mand. Lt. 3rd Molar) to
37.43% (Mand. Lt. 2nd Molar).
It was also observed that the buccal surface was the most common location (86%) for the projections and the most common grade was Grade I followed by Grade III.
The Occurrences of cervical enamel projection of maxillary teeth were 26.08¡¾1.01% and mandibular teeth were 29.31¡¾0.93%.
The occurrences of cervical enamel projection of the maxillary teeth were higher than that of the foreigners¢¥ but mandibular teeth were almost identical occurrence.
In male, the occurrence of cervical enamel projections were 27.57¡¾1.01% and in female that occurrences were 28.17¡¾0.94%.
Author has observed a statistical relationship between periodontal involvement and cervical enamel projection.
The teeth gave a statistical relationship (x2=14.28) between periodontal involvement molar and cervical enamel projection.
This relationship was highly significant between cervical enamel projection and periodontal disease.
